That I Would Be Good

I had a rummage through the CD cupboard today for some background baking music and came across this from my student days...

Alanis Morissette: Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie
It is one of those CDs I had completely forgotten about but once it started to play it all came back to me.

I had always loved one song above the rest.

Today it made me cry.

The words mean more fifteen years on...

that I would be good even if I did nothing

that I would be good even if I got the thumbs down

that I would be good if I got and stayed sick

that I would be good even if I gained ten pounds

that I would be fine even if I went bankrupt

that I would be good if I lost my hair and my youth

that I would be great if I was no longer queen

that I would be grand if I was not all knowing

that I would be loved even when I numb myself

that I would be good even when I am overwhelmed

that I would be loved even when I was fuming

that I would be good even if I was clingy

that I would be good even if I lost sanity

that I would be good

whether with or without you

Then I went rummaging on YouTube to find a live performance of the track.

It gave me goosebumps.

As I listened I scrolled through the comments and came across this...

my wife played this to me when she was receiving treatment for cancer .... i loved it , but she never beat it , she died at 34 from pancreatic cancer which had spread everywhere ... this friday she would have been 40 years old .... RIP Joanne ,our children are well and fine and are very loved xxx

It makes me so thankful for what I have got.
Watch and enjoy.

  1. I decided not to listen as know it would make me cry, especially after reading the comment left.

Alanis Morissette album get's play often here. Hand in my pocket in the most played. One that we played driving on holiday to Cornwall, my sister and I, youngish, free and me single for the first time in seven years after finally realising I was worth far more than the reliationship I was in.

I played the track over and over again which made me pass my driving test first time, two weeks before Bex was born. She loves this song too, obviously playing it too loud!!!

This year I played it and cried, wondering if everything is 'going to be fine, fine, fine'. Still working that one out x

So yes Music from the past can make you cry but then sometimes crying is a good thing, I guess x x x

    1. Yes, a good cry can be a good thing. I really hope everything is fine for you. I had Jagged Little Pill on cassette and played it loads driving around MA, USA when I worked as an au pair. I must get it on a more user friendly format! Thanks for commenting my lovely x

  2. I cried just reading the lyrics & the comment. It does us all good to stop for a moment and really think about all we have and keep a little persepctive. We should all keep tight hold of hope - no matter what we have or don't have, if we have that, we will be ok.

I appreciate all comments, thank you! x x
